Our clinic hosted an:
Equine Respiratory Disease Seminar
Wednesday, February 15th at 6:30 p.m.
Thank
you to all who participated in our equine respiratory seminar. The
meeting was a great success as Dr. Erica McKenzie from Oregon State
University spoke for 90 minutes to more than 50 dedicated horse owners. some of the interesting subjects discussed included new insights for
strangles prevention, treatment, and control, influenza and
rhinopneumonitis protection, and management of equine allergic
respiratory diseases including "heaves". Dr. McKenzie also presented
some very fascinating video clips of dynamic endoscopy used to assess
horses' upper airway function at speed.
During
her remarks about equine exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH)
Dr. McKenzie revealed an association in large warmblood breeds
experiencing EIPH to also suffer from artrial fibrillation, a particular
type of heart arrhythmia.
With
the meeting's good attendance we were able to raise over $150 to donate
to the Unwanted Horse Coalition. We received the following thank you
letter.
Thanks again to Dr. McKenzie and to all who attended!
SWVC
Dr. Violet,
I
received your letter and generous donations today. I can't thank you
enough for thinking of the UHC and taking donations in our name. We are
so grateful for your kind gesture. If you ever need anything from the
UHC (materials, handouts, brochures, ect.) please let me know. I am
always here to help with any kind of equine welfare project!
I
will be sending you a formal thank you in the mail, but I wanted to
send you and e-mail as well, since we are so thrilled with your
generosity.
